UsefulVitamins takes a small number of guest contributions each month. We are open to outside writers, and we are strict about what gets published. A guest article goes through the same review as anything written in house.
Two rules that decide almost everything.
Topics are agreed with our editor before you write. We do not accept finished drafts that arrive unannounced.
Nothing is published until it passes our internal review. There is no exception to this, including for writers we have published before.
What we publish
A good fit
- Dosage, form and timing explainers where the numbers come from a source we can open
- Drug and supplement interaction guides written with real clinical caution
- Brand or product comparisons built on label data and third-party testing
- Calculators and tools that answer a question faster than an article can
- Clear write-ups of what the evidence does not show
Not a fit
- Promotional posts, sponsored content and press releases
- Pitches whose real purpose is placing a link
- Any claim that a supplement treats, cures or prevents a disease
- “Studies show” with no study named
- Topics we already cover well, unless you are correcting or extending them
How it works
-
Pitch the idea, not the article
Send a working title, the angle in two or three sentences, and the sources you plan to build on. Do not write the piece first. Most rejected submissions are finished drafts on topics we already published.
-
The editor agrees the topic with you
We check your idea against what is already on the site, sharpen the angle, and settle the scope and length. You start writing only after the topic is agreed. This is where most of the value is added, and it costs you nothing.
-
You write to our published standards
Every factual claim has to trace back to a source we can open and check, named by PMID or DOI where one exists. Our full method is public: read How We Review Supplements before you start.
-
Internal review
We open every study you cite and check that it says what the draft claims. We verify dosage figures against the source, check label data against the manufacturer, and flag anything that reads as a medical claim. Expect at least one round of revisions. Drafts that do not survive this step are not published.
-
Publication
Once the piece passes review we schedule it, add images, and publish it under your byline. We tell you the date in advance.
Credit, links and money
You keep the byline. We do not publish guest work under a house name.
We do not sell links and we do not accept paid placements. If your pitch includes a fee for a link, or a link to a client, we will decline it. Commercial outbound links anywhere on this site carry nofollow sponsored.
We may edit for house style, structure and length. We will not change the substance of your argument without asking you first.
Before you pitch
Read two or three of our recent articles. The house style is plain, specific and short-sentenced. We name numbers, we name sources, and we say plainly when the evidence is thin. Pitches that clearly have not looked at the site are easy to spot.
Send your pitch
Email editorial@usefulvitamins.com with:
- Working title and the angle in two or three sentences
- Two or three sources you intend to build on
- One link to something you have written before
- A line on why you are the person to write it
We answer every pitch, including the ones we decline. Give us up to ten working days.
